Maxine Landis Honored Among Leading American Poets
Veteran poet Maxine Landis has authored over 100 literary works and is currently writing her first poetry book, "Wildflowers and Weeds"

PORT HUENEME, CA, September 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maxine Landis, Poet and Retired Teacher, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in poetry.

A talented writer, Maxine Landis has been composing poetry for an excess of 40 years. She published her first poem while in the 10th grade and has since authored over 100 literary works, including nine chapbooks. Over the course of her career, Ms. Landis has worked alongside some of the world's most renowned poets the likes of Jack Grapes and Aram Saroyan. She has also traveled extensively and has participated in numerous seminars and writers conferences, including the California Writers Club Convention at Asilomar, the Reader's Digest Conference in Las Vegas and, most recently, the Ventura Writers Conference. Her work has been featured in Voices, Vol-No, San Fernando Poetry Journal, ONTHEBUS, Earthwords, Earthbound, Struggle Magazine, On Target, Spillway Magazine, Quill, Sparrowgrass, Satori and other prestigious anthologies. She has also performed poetry readings at Brentano's in Brentwood, Beyond Baroque, Iguana Cafe, LuLu's Alibi, Book Grinders, Barnsdale Art Park, Earthling Bookstore and many other locations throughout California. In addition to her creative writing efforts, Ms. Landis has authored numerous articles for local newspapers and newsletters. She is currently in the midst of writing her first children's book entitled "Argonaut's Adventures," which is based on a true story. Her first book of poetry, "Wildflowers and Weeds" is also slated for release in the coming year and will be available for purchase through Xlibris.com.

Driven to share her love of poetry through education, Ms. Landis has held a number of academic positions throughout California. She was designated a California Poet in the Schools and worked with Southwest Middle High School in Los Angeles, Roosevelt High School and Indian School. She also helmed a UCLA Summer writers program and was in attendance at the CPITS Conference at Walker Creek. Ms. Landis volunteered for Project INTERACT and served as a Poet in Residence at Morningside High School of the Inglewood Unified School District where she compiled an extensive anthology of the student-submitted poems. In addition, she taught poetry and creative writing at the Art & Creative Writing Academy in Palos Verdes and at Carson Middle School. She also taught poetry classes for the El Camino College Community Education program.

Ms. Landis holds a bachelor's degree in creative arts from Antioch University, earned in 1992. She completed coursework at the University of California, Los Angeles and California State University, Long Beach and Davis. Her professional affiliations include the LA Collective, the Ventura County Writers Club, California Poets In the Schools, the California State Poetry Society, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Poetry Society of America, Women Writing the West and the Academy of American Poets. She maintains membership with the Ventura Writers Club, SCBWI and CPITS.
