Celebrated Author Martha Tolles Honored by Cambridge Who's Who
Martha Tolles has sold 2.3 million copies of her books through Scholastic Publishing

SAN MARINO, CA, March 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Martha Tolles, Author, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in writing.

If you asked Martha Tolles what she would be doing in 1965 five years prior, she most certainly wouldn't answer "celebrating the completion of my first book." And yet, that is just what she did after coming up with the idea to write a story for her children while recuperating from back surgery. A mother of six (with one daughter and five sons), Ms. Tolles wrote "Too Many Boys," later to be followed by "Katie and Those Boys" in 1974. This book would be her first of many—Ms. Tolles eventually went on to author a total of 11 children's books and 30 short stories.

Today, Ms. Tolles is a celebrated author of children's novels and short stories with over 44 years of experience and 2.3 million copies of her eight books sold through Scholastic Publishing. Some of her well-received works include Darci Daniels Series classics such as "Who's Reading Darci's Diary?" and "Darci and the Dance Contest." Ms. Tolles also continued writing about her first heroine, Katie, in "Katie for President" and "Katie's Baby-Sitting Job." Two of her books, "Marrying off Mom," and "Darci in Cabin Thirteen" were selected for the International Reading Association Children's Choices list.

After recently submitting another novel for the middle-school age demographic, Ms. Tolles began writing her first adult novel and will seek to complete it within the next few years. Ms. Tolles has had fifteen stories published on the Los Angeles Times Kids page. Three of them were reprinted in paperback by Dominie/Pearson; "Pockets Full of Gold", "What Happens to the Dog", and "When Rudy Crowed". Ms. Tolles is a member of the Authors Guild of New York, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and her local writer's group, Lunch Brunch. She has completed courses in children's literature at California State University and holds a bachelor of arts in English from Smith College. Her husband was E. Leroy Tolles, an attorney in Los Angeles.
