Stacey D. Vila Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Secondary Education
Stacey D. Vila draws on her experiences in archaeological digs to enrich her earth science and social studies classes

QUEENS VILLAGE, NY, August 05, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Stacey D. Vila, Social Studies and Earth Science Teacher at Queens Vocational and Technical High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in secondary education.

With 17 years of experience in teaching, Stacey D. Vila is noted for her expertise in earth science and social studies. She has spent most of her career at Queens Vocational and Technical High School, where she serves as a teacher-mentor and handles classroom management and curriculum development. An archaeology enthusiast, Ms. Vila has traveled extensively as part of numerous digs - experiences that she utilizes in her own lessons, thereby giving her classes a unique perspective.

Also active in politics, Ms. Vila hopes to effect changes in the educational arena through writing; to date, she has written articles that concern such diverse topics as flag burning, individual rights and educational issues concerning the establishment of science fairs, and creative teaching styles for success in the classroom. She considers receiving the appreciation of her students to be the most rewarding aspect of her career, and attributes her success to her relish for taking on challenges.

Ms. Vila holds a master of science in policy and management and a bachelor of arts in national and international political science, both from Stony Brook University, as well as a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Queens College. She obtained certification in labor and union management and arbitration, also from Stony Brook. She is affiliated with the Merchant Marine Academy Sponsor Program, the Queens Village Republican Club, the Bell Park Manor Terrace Community Council, and the Stronghurst Fire Victims Fund. Honors of which she is a recipient include an Outstanding Campaign Award at the 2002 New York Assembly 24th A.D. Campaign, a first place finish at the Tolerance and Harmony 5K Race, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Appreciation Award for The Village of North Haven's Survey of Public Attitudes about White-Tailed Deer, and a Citation Award of Merit from the Military Order of the World Wars.
