Muhtar Kent, CEO of Coca-Cola, Discusses His Company's Involvement in the Community in February's Manufacturing Digital

SAN DIEGO, CA, February 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Coca-Cola Company is the world's leading beverage manufacturer and is featured in February's issue of Manufacturing Digital. Coca-Cola was first introduced in 1886 and over the years has become the most popular and biggest-selling soft drink in history. Last year the company celebrated its 125th anniversary.

"For the last 125 years, Coca-Cola has grown up right beside America. We have reinvented and renewed ourselves countless times," says Muhtar Kent, CEO of Coca-Cola. Through its famous TV advertisements, clever marketing campaigns, huge product portfolio and numerous community and social products, the Coca-Cola Company has grown into one of the most recognised brands on the planet.

Despite its popularity and global standing, the company has had its fair share of criticisms and brickbats. Concerns, some of them serious, have been raised about its environmental commitment and its moral agenda.

Investigations have revealed Coke, as it is popularly called, has committed extensive environmental harm in countries outside the US.

In 2007, the India Resource Center found the company violated a number of environmental laws in dumping toxic sludge in rural areas near its bottling factory in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Since his appointment as CEO of Coca-Cola in 1998, Kent has emerged as a prominent corporate advocate for a global treaty to curb climate change. The company works closely with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to hold down its greenhouse gas emissions, recycle more and pollute less.

Kent's focus on sustainability is a matter of business since global warming creates business risks for Coca-Cola. As one of the largest manufacturers globally, Coca-Cola's reputation is at stake.
