Having been in existence for over 160 years, Omega is one of the most experienced and well-known watch manufacturers still in existence.
CARLSBAD, CA, December 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Having been in existence for over 160 years, Omega is one of the most experienced and well-known watch manufacturers still in existence. Established in 1848 by Louis Brandt, who assembled precision pocket watches with various components supplied by local craftsman, Omega has been responsible for several time-keeping landmarks throughout history.
The company continues to develop new technology as well as push the boundaries of innovation and as a result, has been the watch of choice for countless celebrities, national institutions and global sporting events.
The company's first major innovation came in 1894 with the Calibre 19 watch. Designed by Francois Chevillat, the watch featured ingenious mechanisms and was manufactured using techniques never seen before.
In the years that followed, Omega developed watches for specialist applications, introduced various technological advancements, and continued to produce luxurious time-pieces. Then in 1932, Omega was given full responsibility for timekeeping at the Los Angeles Olympic Games, supplying and controlling 30 specially designated chronographs which were used in all sporting events.
The next major advancement on the Omega timeline came in 1939 with the 30mm calibre designed by Henri Kneuss, a development which would go on to establish the brand as one of the world's most accurate timepiece producers.
However, over half a century later in 1999, the first practical new watch escapement to be invented in 250 years was installed in the Omega DeVille and ushered in a new generation of timepieces. The Co-Axial escapement reduces friction between the escape wheel and the pallets to practically zero, resulting in component longevity and above all superb accuracy.
